Have you been contemplating adding a blog to your business website but think your business might be a bit to boring? In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing a few secrets to making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business.
Content Marketing is more and more becoming the most effective way to promote any kind of business or website online and should be a crucial part of your Digital Marketing Strategy.
But why is making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business so important, and how do you make sure to do it successfully? Especially if your business is not something particularly gripping…?
making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business and Why it Matters
The biggest mistake that most businesses make when trying to promote their businesses online is to focus too much on the short term.
That is to say that they look at their digital marketing strategy through the lens of how many conversions they can get from any given media strategy. This then results in them posting what are essentially adverts, then getting confused as to why no one clicks on them.
What’s far more important and what’s really making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business is to think about the long term, and about establishing trust and influence in your chosen niche.
Imagine if you will, a person who started their own ecommerce store and have now built a wildly successful brand.
Now, let’s also say that this same person then began sharing all kinds of helpful articles, how to tutorials and guides, which are all pretty well written, insightful and inspiring…all related to how you too can open your own ecommerce store…
Do you think you’re going to return to that person’s website when you’ve finally decide to take the leap and start your own ecommerce business?
Of course you are however, since your last visit, that same person now offers a book or a course or a workshop on showing you how to successfully launch your very own ecommerce store…think you’re going to buy that course?
Of course you are. Because they’ve shown you that they’re an authority in that particular niche…and I’ve said it before here on the blog…
People Do Business With People They Know, Like and Trust!
The same goes for a site that writes about home improvement and also offers some DIY services. If you’ve read content there before and you know they know what they’re talking about, then that’s the business you’re going to want to buy from.
How to Write Great Content for your commercial business
So here’s the problem – you run a restaurant and you don’t see any way that you can contribute anything interesting to a blog. What do you do?
Well for starters, there’s no industry that has nothing interesting to say. If you own a restaurant, you could write content all about the food you make. You could write content about some of the up coming events you may have going on. You could even create videos showcasing how a customer could make your dishes at home.
Now, I know what you’re thinking…
If I show my customers how to make their favorite dishes at home…they’ll never come visit my restaurant!
Most customer who frequent restaurant do so because they love the entire experience, not just the food. Successful restauranteurs who focus on the customers entire experience not just the food, are much more successful…let’s be real here…anyone can cook a steak with some potatoes and a few steamed carrots…but having someone else… someone who cooks for a living, make it and have it served to you all while making you feel like a king…that’s hard to replicate.
Now, let’s say you’re working out of an office within a very dry B2B industry such as corporate finance, then making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business may mean writing tips for others within your industry, or maybe even some financial tips for other businesses.
In this scenario you could even write tips for private individuals to help them manage their finances.
* I’m not in this industry at all, so my experience is very limited, however, if you’re going to get into this niche…make sure you have all required licenses to be offering any kind of professional advice
If you have a flier company, then you could be making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business by writing about design, about marketing and maybe even about launching a new business. Just think a little outside the box and you’ll find there are always interesting subjects in and around your industry.
Making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business interesting and engaging…Focus on how you’re structuring your blog posts.
I’ve found that the most successful of all posts types are those that are written as ‘stories’. These are posts that are written from a first person perspective, or about someone that the reader can relate to.
The human brain is actually ‘hardwired’ to enjoy stories, and thus you will find that this makes them very compelling and difficult to stop reading.

What if You Can’t Write?
Now before you throw in the towel on making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business because you really believe you can’t write. Well, happily, I’ve got a few directions you might want to go in.
I’ve mentioned this first tactic here on the blog more than once, so, if you’re a frequent reader here, you’ll have probably already guessed that my first suggestion on making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business if you can’t write it yourself is to outsource it.
Head on over to your favorite freelance website and hire someone who specializes in making Content Marketing for Commercial Business and hire them to create it.
The second tactic is to communicate in other ways – maybe you’re more comfortable uploading video content rather than written blog posts. You could create a channel on Youtube and upload helpful tutorial style videos. These videos could show customers how to solve their problem by using your products or services. You can then embed those videos on your website essentially creating a vlog. Another benefit of using video is the traffic you could receive from Youtube.
A huge benefit of implementing video as a form of content marketing, is that it gives the impression to viewers that you’re an authority on the topic.
The third tactic is to get your customers to write content for you. Asking your customers to write a review of a recent purchase or perhaps creating a page on your website specifically asking your readers if they’d like to write content for your blog. I did this for a blog I built a few years ago and had a few writers reach out. There are writers out there just starting out that would love some exposure or to simply build up their writing portfolio.
The fourth tactic is to begin an outreach program where you begin researching similar blogs in your industry and begin reaching out to the blog owner to see if they’d be interested in writing a guest post on your blog.
The fifth tactic is to just tackle the issue head on and just learn how to write the content yourself. Check out my 30 Day Content Marketing workshop, where I give you a day by day step by step 30 day plan to create content your customers will love.
No matter your business or your experience, making Content Marketing work for your Commercial Business should be a major part of your strategy.
No excuses!
